Elephants destroy crops near Malavalli

January 14, 2017 12:54 am | Updated 12:54 am IST - Mandya:

A herd of elephants damaged various crops near Mallikyatahana Halli near Malavalli on Friday.

Sources from the Forest Department said the pachyderms entered the village from nearby forest areas in the early hours on Friday and destroyed standing crops on several acres of lands owned by farmers Govinda, Mariswamy, Anish and Hucchamma. They added that the elephants would be driven back to the forest.

“We are monitoring the movements of the elephants. The public should stay indoors at night,” a forest officer said.
