ATMs yet to be fully functional in Mandya, Ramanagaram districts

January 12, 2017 12:18 am | Updated 12:18 am IST - Mandya:

Even nearly two months after the release of new ₹500 and ₹2,000 notes, many ATMs in Mandya and Ramanagaram districts are yet to be recalibrated.

Various nationalised and private banks have installed ATM kiosks at 290 places in Mandya and around 190 in Ramanagaram. However, the banks have not completed the exercise of streamlining the kiosks.

Around 70 per cent of the ATMs are disbursing cash in Mandya, N.G. Prabhudev, manager, Lead Bank of Mandya (Vijaya Bank), told The Hindu .

According to B. Prakash, manager, Lead Bank of Ramanagaram (Corporation Bank), “a majority of the ATMs” have been recalibrated in Ramanagaram. “Some ATMs may not be functioning owing to technical reasons and other issues,” Mr. Prakash told The Hindu.

Peripheral areas

When this correspondent contacted senior officials of Canara Bank, State Bank of India, State Bank of Mysuru, and a few other private banks in both the districts on Wednesday, they were reluctant to share details about the number of ATMs functioning.

A few officials on condition of anonymity said that recalibration of around 30 per cent of the ATMs, especially at rural and peripheral areas, is pending and it will be completed by January 31.

Meanwhile, queues outside the banks in both the districts have come down following the improvement in cash supply. The situation has significantly improved with the Reserve Bank of India supplying cash to meet the requirement of account holders. However, the situation will ease only after all the ATM kiosks start functioning normally, Mr. Prabhudev said.
