The Goa police on Monday issued fresh summons to pop singer Remo Fernandes, who is facing a police case for alleged verbal abuse of a minor girl.

He failed to be present at the Agassaim police station in north Goa in response to an earlier summons.

Mr. Remo Fernandes allegedly verbally abused the 17-year-old girl from Maharashtra, after she was knocked down in north Goa on December 1 by a speeding car driven by his son Jonah in which the singer was also travelling.

An FIR was registered against the pop star on a complaint filed by activist-lawyer Aires Rodrigues.

The fresh summons was issued after the singer’s lawyer sent a letter to the police stating that he was in Europe. The police have now directed him to appear before it on Wednesday.

The police have also issued summons to the singer’s son to appear on the same day in connection with the case registered against his father.

The police, after recording the statement of the victim, registered an offence under Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act 2003 against the singer.

The pop star denied the allegations and warned the complainant of legal action for tarnishing his image.

Rash driving case

The Mapusa police in north Goa earlier registered an offence of rash and negligent driving against Mr. Jonah Fernandes under Sections 279 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code.

The girl, who was grievously injured, is recuperating at the Goa Medical College after undergoing surgeries for head and leg injuries.

The complainant said on Sunday that the charges against the singer were based on evidence and the minor girl’s statement.
