A two-member team of the Central Bureau of Investigation visited Italy earlier this month in connection with the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal case.
“The team met the prosecutors and the Italian police officers who were involved in the investigations for further details,” said a CBI official.
“It was a four-day visit and it has given a new impetus to our investigations.”
The case is now being probed by a special investigation team headed by a CBI Additional Director.
Money trailThe agency is probing the money trail of 50 million Euros that had been allegedly paid in bribes.
The amounts had been routed through various firms across eight countries.
The CBI has also obtained a copy of the judgment of the Italy court of appeal that in April sentenced two former top executives of AgustaWestland and its parent Italian firm Finmeccanica to jail for bribing Indian officials to bag the Rs.3,700-crore deal for the helicopters.
Judicial requestIn response to letters of judicial request for information on the case, the agency has received details from Italy.
However, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, British Virgin Islands and Switzerland have provided only partial information.
Relay is still awaited from Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
