The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against N.S. Gajbhiye, former vice-chancellor of Harisingh Gour Central University at Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly amassing illegal wealth worth over Rs.2.54 crore. Mr. Gajbhiye is currently professor in the chemistry department of IIT Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the FIR, Mr. Gajbhiye was in possession of disproportionate assets amounting to Rs.2.54 crore in his name and his family members’ during the period under scrutiny, March 2009 to May 2014.
“It is also alleged that during the check period, an amount of Rs.99 lakh (mostly in cash) has been deposited in the various bank accounts of the then Vice-Chancellor and his family members. The CBI had earlier registered three cases against him and others,” a CBI spokesperson said.
Searches in those cases led to seizure of documents, including financial investments by the former V-C and his family members.
