The YSR Congress has urged Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to take steps to order a probe by a sitting High Court Judge or the CBI into the violence that took place in Tuni during the Kapu Garjana meeting.
YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and submitted him a memorandum in which he said that the whole episode was completely mismanaged by the State government, which, he said, was trying to divert the attention of the people by raising false insinuations and baseless allegations against the YSR Congress.
White paper sought
The party also demanded that the government release a white paper on the steep hike in the estimates for irrigation projects, which it said was aimed at benefiting contractors close to the Chief Minister and his coterie.
The recent decision of the State Cabinet to increase package number 29 from Rs. 12 crore to Rs. 110 crore was nothing short of looting public money, he said.
In another memorandum, he wanted the Governor to direct the State Government to immediately constitute the tribal advisory council with three-fourth of the legislators belonging to Scheduled Tribes as its members. The government should be advised not to take any decision regarding tribals till the constitution of such a council.
Palamuru project
The party also urged the Governor to direct the Telangana Government against taking up the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project.
In a memorandum, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy explained the adverse impact the project would have on the Rayalaseema region.
The project would deprive Rayalaseema districts, as also Nellore and Prakasam, of water for irrigation needs, besides destabilising the irrigated area under Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar, and Prakasam barrage, which would have serious ramifications.
“It is surprising that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is duty bound to safeguard the interests of the State, is keeping silent,” he said.
