Youth held on assault charge

The II-town police arrested a youth, Kusumanchi Vikram, who allegedly inflicted knife injuries on a first year degree student for turning down his proposal for marriage, at Gajularega in the town on Monday, according to Vizianagaram SDPO A.V. Ramana.

Inspector G. Durga Prasad, who is investigating the case, presented the accused before the media on Tuesday.

Mr. Ramana said that the youth, who completed MBA and running a mobile shop at S. Kota, was a relative of the girl. Prior to entering her house, he purchased a small knife at Gajularega with an intention to eliminate her, he said. Mr. Durga Prasad and II Town Sub-Inspector Ravi arrested him at Babametta in the morning and registered cases under sections IPC 307, 354(B), and 452, the SDPO said

Meanwhile, a police team launched a search for L. Prasanna Babu, director of Bible Residential University at Modavalasa in Denkada mandal, following a complaint of sexual harassment by woman students of the institute to Superintendent of Police on Monday. Mr. Ramana said that Bhogapuram Inspector K. Vaikunta Rao was investigating the case.
