Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy said on Wednesday there was no dearth of funds for developmental works and beautification of Kurnool city, but officials must ensure completion of works within the timeframe.

After unveiling a plaque to lay the foundation for a Rs. 39.50-lakh drinking water pipeline at Budhawarapet in the 15th municipal ward here, Mr. Krishnamurthy said the government had sanctioned substantial funds for the city’s development, though it was not included in the list of Smart cities. Kurnool would get a massive facelift in the next three months, he said and added that cement roads, drainage canals, street lighting, development of parks and tree plantation would be undertaken in all municipal wards.

Rajya Sabha member T.G. Venkatesh said despite pumping of funds, development works were tardy owing to laxity of officials and contractors. The MP exhorted them to strive for the development of Kurnool by putting in concerted efforts.

MLA S.V. Mohan Reddy said the government had allocated about Rs. 200 crore under various heads to develop the city.

Nearly Rs. 80 lakh was sanctioned for cement roads and drainage works in Budhawarapet area alone. He said a fishing tank in the area would be developed as a picnic spot. Former Mayor Bangi Anantaiah, Municipal Commissioner S. Ravindra Babu, former corporators and local people participated.
