August 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 03:58 pm IST - CHITTOOR:

According to police, the three smugglers would purchase red sanders logs from agents Jangala Sivasankar, Bodde Venkata Ramana, Bodde Pedda Venkata Ramana, Venkata Reddy and Jangala Bhadraiah of Railway Kodur and other areas in Kadapa district.

Maintaining dumps at Veldurthi, Kurnool and Nellore, they would transport the materials in cars, lorries and containers under the guise of waste paper loads, fruits and vegetables to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, New Delhi and northern States.

Other than Gangi Reddy, the three have links with several notorious international smugglers.

“The task force is making thorough investigations to unravel further links of the nabbed smugglers,” police said.

Some of the routes used by the gang are: Rayachoty – Renigunta – Satyaveedu – Chennai; Veldurthi – Kurnool – Jadcherla – Hyderabad – Nagpur highway – Jaipur – Delhi; Veldurthi – Gooty – Anantapur - Penukonda – Bengaluru; and towards Mumbai via Jadcherla, Hyderabad and Nagpur.

The smugglers would collect the amount through hawala from Chennai from Hawala Sankar and Venkata Ramaraju.

The three were sent to Kadapa jail on judicial remand.
