‘Sirimanu’ (ceremonial post) for the Sri Pydithalli Ammavaru celebrations has been spotted at an orchard belonging to Majji Srinivasa Rao and Venkataratnam near the railway level-crossing at Bhimasingi on Sunday.
The 60-foot-long tamarind tree will be felled after performing puja at its trunk at 9.35 a.m. on October 14, said Executive Officer P.V.A.V.S. Bhanu Raja of Sri Pydithalli Ammavari Devasthanam and Thallapudi Bhaskara Rao, chief priest of the temple, at a press conference on Sunday evening.
The felled tree will be carted through the streets of the fort town to the priest’s residence at Hukumpeta where it will be shaped into a long ceremonial pole for the ‘Sirimanotsav’ of the goddess on October 27.
According to story in circulation for ages, that goddess Sri Pydimamba appears in dream of the chief priest and orders him to fell the tree that is usually spotted in Vizianagaram rural and abutting mandals for the ceremonial post to be used in the annual ‘ Sirimanotsav’. This time, it was spotted at Bhimasingi.
