The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), the State-owned premier coal production company, has several proposals on the anvil to promote sports for the benefit employees and their family members.

The sports promotion initiatives under consideration of the company management include provision of wooden flooring at the indoor shuttle badminton courts and other sporting facilities in the Collieries Employees Recreation Clubs (CERCs) in the company’s 11 areas spread across four districts including Khammam.

According to SCCL sources, some of the clubs meant for the executive officers already have similar facilities in Kothagudem and other areas of the vast coal belt region. The new initiative is aimed at extending the modern sporting facilities to other coal belt areas.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Sagar said the company management was examining a proposal to implement Coal India Ltd’s sports policy in the SCCL. The policy envisages setting up of sports schools and recruitment of meritorious sports persons among others.
