Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Tuesday flagged off the ‘Ramanuja sanchara ratham’. The event was organised by the TTD as part of the millennial celebrations of the birth of great Sri Vaishnavite saint.

Accompanied by wife Vimala Narasimhan, the Governor took part in the special religious function organised at the Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swamy temple in connection with the flagging-off ceremony. The ambitious programme is aimed at covering all the 108 Sri Vaishnavite divya desams (sacred towns) located in different parts of the country.

The Governor complimented the TTD on embarking on the year-long celebrations in the honour of the saint, who was instrumental in introducing several reforms in the daily worship at the Tirumala temple of Lord Venkateswara. Both the senior and junior pontiffs of the hill temple also graced the occasion.

Earlier, the Governor was accorded a traditional reception on his arrival at the main temple complex and was led into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Prominent among others who received him include TTD Chairman Ch. Krishna Murthy, Executive Officer D. Sambasiva Rao, JEOs K.S. Srinivasa Raju and Pola Bhaskar.

Later, the Governor motored down to Tirupati to participate in local programmes.
