Rain impacts pilgrim turnout in Tirumala

November 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - TIRUMALA:

The heavy rain in Rayalseema and the eastern districts of Tamil Nadu had its impact on pilgrim turnout at the temple town.

Tirumala registered less than moderate crowd in the past three days. As against long waiting hours, pilgrims had darshan of the deity by standing in ordinary queues in minimum time.

The TTD attributed the poor pilgrim turnout to breaches and landslips on roads and flooding of railway lines to Tirupati from Nellore and Chennai, resulting in the cancellation of several bus and train services. Furthermore, reports of closure of the footpath leading to the sacred town from Chandragiri owing to heavy landslips are also believed to have further compounded pilgrims’ fears.
