Panel postpones inquiry into Pushkar stampede

Justice Somayajulu, one man Commission appointed to probe into the stampede that took place at Pushkarghat during Pushkarams on July 14, 2015, postponed its enquiry to June 21. The Commission which met here at R and B Guesthouse conducted the proceedings for only for 25 minutes and postponed the enquiry.

Justice Somayajuly said he wanted to see the video footage, clippings and photographs of the stampede and then will decide who are to be called before the enquiry and who will be cross-examined and how the proceedings have to be conducted.

Earlier, the senior advocate and AP Bar Council member Muppalla Subba Rao in his submission to the Commission said the affidavit filed by the Collector did not have any details about what action that the State government had taken on the officials who were responsible for the incident, why the government machinery failed to control the heavy crowd that came in 7 trains at the time of the incident and other details. He sought the permission of the Justice Somayajulu to cross-examine the Collector.

Former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar also submitted another affidavit to the Commission on Tuesday in which he said the Commission can call not only Collector, but also the Chief Minister if it wants to cross-examine in this incident which claimed 29 lives.
