YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi on Wednesday asserted that her party would secure 25 Lok Sabha seats in both the States in the coming elections.
Addressing a series of impromptu gatherings in Chintalapudi, Kamavarapukota and Lingapalem mandals as part of her electioneering, she stated that only her son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy could carry forward the welfare scheme conceived by her husband and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. “If you want fee reimbursement for your children, waiver of SHG loans and old-age pensions, you have to vote for him(Jagan),” she told the voters.
Striking the right chord with the audience, Ms. Vijayamma focused on the multi-purpose Indira Sagar Project proposed to be built across the Godavari river near Polavaram and a lift irrigation scheme in Chintalapudi area which was initiated during the regime of her husband, envisaged to benefit the upland farmers in the twin Godavari districts.
“Jalayagnam, a dream project conceived by Mr. YSR to usher prosperity into the households of upland farmers, has become a victim of the alleged indifference of the Congress governments at the Centre and in the State. It is Mr. Jagan who is very much capable of making it a reality,” she claimed. When Mr. Rajasekhar Reddy could complete 22 out of nearly 80-odd irrigation projects under the Jalayagnam programme, the rest could be completed by only Mr Jagan, she said.
‘Naidu is anti-poor’She dubbed TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu as an anti-poor person. Ms. Vijayamma accused Mr. Naidu of turning a blind eye to agriculture and irrigation during his chief ministerial tenure by demonstrating undue love for IT companies. YSRC MP candidate Thota Chandrasekhar accompanied Ms. Vijayamma during the road shows. Ms. Vijayamma, who came from Krishna district, left for Rajahmundry on Wednesday night as she is scheduled to reach Visakhapatnam on Thursday to file her nomination for the MP seat.
