A man, suspected to be mentally disturbed, went berserk attacking children with stones and stabbing three passersby in Adoni town in Kurnool district on Saturday, before local persons and police caught him by administering a sedative.

The man, who pelted stones at two children at Valmikinagar in Adoni town, was caught by local people and was being taken to Adoni I Town police station, when he escaped. The man, who identified himself as Balakrishna of Kadapa town, picked up a knife from a cool drink shop in Buddekal area, began inflicting cut wounds on his hands and stabbed three passersby.

Adoni police and people together overpowered him and administered chloroform to immobilise him and later admitted him to the Government hospital at Adoni. The injured persons were also hospitalised. The police have registered a case.
