State Brahmins’ Welfare Corporation Chairman and former Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao has said that the corporation would release loans to poor Brahmins if they formed self-help groups and also impart them training in skill development. Since the experiment in Srikakulam district has become a success, it was decided to replicate the same in Vizianagaram district for their empowerment, he added.
Mr. Krishna Rao, who was here on Tuesday, reviewed the corporation activities with Collector M.M. Nayak and officials of DRDA, MEPMA, Endowments, and Lead Bank Manager. He asked them to assist Brahmins form SHGs for receiving loans through the corporation.
The eligible Brahmins could seek loans by submitting applications through MeeSeva, he said. Further, he said that the corporation would release grants for construction of Brahmins community centre for which the district administration had allocated 20 cents of land at Poolbaugh in the town. Collector Nayak informed him that the administration would make proposals for loans to Brahmins in its annual credit plan and also fix targets for banks.
