Advocates and all party leaders of Vedurukuppam, Sriranga Raja Puram and Gangadhara (GD) Nellore mandals of the district on Friday launched a relay hunger strike in front of the Chittoor district court complex here in support of their demand to attach the three mandals to the jurisdiction of Chittoor by shifting them from Puttur court.

Convener of the struggle committee Jayakumar and co-convener Nelson, speaking to the media, said that during the last 30 years, the advocates of the three mandals were working in the junior and senior civil judge courts in Puttur, though they were situated closer to Chittoor town, with distances ranging from 10-20 kilometres. At present, the clients and the advocates have to travel a long distance of 60 km to practice in Puttur.

The advocates said that though the GO MS No. 91/2015 issued on June 24, 2015 ordered the attachment of the three mandals to Chittoor courts’ jurisdiction based on public appeals, the GO has not been implemented so far. "For cases related to revenue issues, the people of the region have to attend courts in Chittoor and for criminal and civil cases the jurisdiction is at Puttur," they maintained, and said that the struggle would be intensified in a phased manner.
