High drama marked a marriage ceremony when the police tried to i take the bridegroom into custody. According to the police, the marriage of Janardhan and Sumalatha, was scheduled on Friday at a private religious establishment.
The celebrations ran into trouble with Dekkali SI Sk. Jilani seeking the custody of the bridegroom on charges of betraying his former girlfriend, Padma, whom he had reportedly promised to marry. The relatives from both the sides confronted him and entered into an argument demanding him to produce an arrest warrant, even as he tried to whisk the groom away in a car.
Agitated at this, the relatives squatted in front of the car on the road. Sensing an opportunity, the groom ran out of the car and tied the mangalsutram around the neck of the wailing bride.
