A resolution passed in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) general body against naming of the under-construction flyover at Indrakeeladri after former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam did not evoke any response. It is because perhaps the flyover has already been named after Goddess Kanaka Durga, the presiding deity of Vijayawada. The proposal to name the flyover after India’s Missile Man was moved by co-opted member Md. Fathullah which was not considered. Fortunately the issue did not widen into a controversy considering the sensitivity of the topic.
Development Authority!
It appears confusion reigns supreme at the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authourity (CRDA). The outfit, which is meant to create infrastructure for the new capital city of Amaravati, time and again falters and recent incident being delay in release of the master plan in local language -- Telugu.
The officials realised the Telugu version of the plan after conducting a series of gram sabhas in the riverfront villages which did not bring any change in the mindset of the farmers. Many felt that the CRDA officials should have released the Telugu version of the plan much earlier and then conducted the gram sabhas which would have given come clarity to the farmers who have parted their land for the new capital city.
After all there is a lot of difference between spoken words and projected visuals.
rescue homes!
Rescuing children from rescue homes! Sounds weird but it is true. A team of officials raided several rescue homes and rescued 36 tribal children who were leading pathetic lives. Though there are several NGOs, orphanage homes and government departments working in Krishna district to protect the children in distress, the district stands first in child abuse. Hundreds of children are suffering in shelter homes due to poor amenities. “It's a fact that some NGOs are leading posh lives on the name of child protection,” confesses an officer.
