Farmer attempts to immolate self

Panjugula Ramasubba Reddy, 50, a farmer, attempted self-immolation in Kanalapalle village in Gospadu mandal in Kurnool district on Friday.

The farmer, who was reportedly mentally disturbed, is battling for life in the Government hospital at Nandyal with nearly 70 per cent burns, according to the police.

Youth jumps in front of train

In another incident, Vikram, 19, allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Ponnapuram in Nandyal mandal on Friday.

He was reportedly anguished at not being able to perform his sister’s marriage. The deceased is a native of Vanipenta village in Chagalamarri mandal, police said.

Woman run over

Chidambaramma, 48, of Peddavagadur village in Anantapur district, who was travelling to Vijayawada by bus, was run over by a lorry when she was crossing the road near Dhone in Kurnool district on Thursday night.

When the driver stopped the bus at a dhaba for dinner, the woman was crossing the road to go to the dhaba when she was run over, according to Dhone police.

The police registered a case and shifted to body to the Government hospital for post-mortem.
