Elation in Chittoor district over Padma awards

January 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 23, 2016 03:16 am IST - TIRUPATI:

Chittoor district is elated over the announcement of Padma awards for two reasons.

Eminent Bharatanatyam dancer Yamini Krishnamurthi, who has been selected for the civilian award ‘Padma Vibhushan’, was born in Madanapalle town. Besides, her other connection with the district is that she was nominated by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) as its ‘Asthana Nartaki’ (dancer in the Lord’s royal court) in the late seventies.

Similarly, the selection of Prof. N.S. Ramanuja Tatacharya, the first Vice-Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati, for the ‘Padma Bhushan’ award, has been lauded in the academic arena.

Prof. Tatacharya is already a President of India awardee and a recipient of the French government’s ‘Chevalier’ award.
