Drug peddlers will be brought to book: IGP

June 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:07 pm IST - KURNOOL:

Police and intelligence wings secured vital leads and will bring to book notorious drug peddlers in Kadapa district soon, Inspector-General of Police, South Zone, N. Sridhar Rao said on Thursday.

The police are making concerted efforts to check peddling of narcotics, including ganja, he told the media in Kurnool. Referring to seizure of heroin and ganja in Rayachoti, Rajampet, Badvel and Kadapa in the recent past, he said the offenders in Kadapa district were mediators to drug peddlers.

Those caught in Rayachoti, Rajampet and other areas in Kadapa district were packing ganja in small packets, Kadapa Superintendent of Police P.H.D. Ramakrishna said.

As Kuwait was the preferred destination for many unemployed persons going for unskilled jobs, the peddlers were sending ganja through them, the SP said.

The supply lines would be cut by arresting the peddlers and the demand would fall, Kadapa OSD (Operations) B. Satya Yesubabu said. Kurnool Range DIG B.V. Ramana Kumar and Kurnool SP A. Ravikrishna were present.
