Child marriage stopped in Addanki

February 09, 2016 05:57 pm | Updated 05:57 pm IST - ONGOLE:

Childline India Foundation's NGO partner HELP stopped the marriage of a 13-year-old girl with a 24-year-old man at Addanki in Prakasam District on Tuesday.

On receiving an anonymous call to child helpline 1098, a team of social activists rushed to the spot and rescued the girl studying eighth standard in a local school there.

The girl lived with her grandmother after her father deserted her mother as she gave birth to three girl children.

The girl would be admitted to the state-run Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) as she was keen on continuing her studies, the HELP social activist B.V. Sagar said.

''We have promised to arrange for the education of her sisters aged eight and six years also in the state-run schools'', he added.
