Sri Dharma Sastha Kalyanam was performed in a grand manner coinciding with the auspicious Mesha Ravi Sankramana at Ayyappa temple abutting Rangarayuducheruvu here on Thursday.

Chants of ‘Poorna-Pushkala Nathane Saranam Ayyappa’ rented the air as Vedic priests, led by Parankusa Ranga, performed the celestial wedding of Lord Hariharaputra with his consorts Poorna and Pushkala on the auspicious occasion to celebrate the sun’s entry into the Zodiac sign of Aries (Mesha).

‘Abhishekam’

The ‘kalyanotsavam’ started with ‘abhishekam’ to the idols of Hariharaputra and his consorts.

This was followed by Vishvakesena puja, Punyahavachanam, Rakshabandhan, Kanyadanam, and Mangaladharanam for the well-being of the humankind, said devasthanam president Nallamalli Venkateswarulu and secretary K.V.L. Narasimha Rao. Members of GenX vied with one another to capture in their smart phones the episodes associated with the celestial wedding, including exchange of garlands.

Community feast

A community feast was organised on the occasion, said devasthanam executive member Tata Ramakrishna.
