Anti-ragging panels revamped

Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor B. Udayalakshmi has revamped the anti-ragging committees on the campus in the aftermath of the suicide by Mondi Rishiteswari, a first year B.Arch student.

“Ragging is totally prohibited at the University, and the State government is very serious about ending this menace. We have placed the principals of various colleges, senior professors and hostel wardens in the committees. The members will meet regularly and review complaints made by students,” Ms. Udayalakshmi said here on Monday.

Registrar P. Raja Sekhar will be the nodal officer for the anti-ragging squad as well as the committee. The squad has ANU College of Science and Technology Principal C. Rambabu as convener and V. Chandra Sekhara Rao (Arts and Commerce College), P. Siddaiah (Engineering College), Chief Wardens of men’s and women’s hostels and Assistant Professors Saraswati Raju Iyer and B. Karuna as members.

The anti-ragging committees are headed by principals of six campus colleges.

ANU had been criticised for not activating anti-ragging panels even after commencement of classes in June
