Anganwadi workers and helpers took out a victory rally from the Zilla Parishad office to Kadapa Collectorate on Sunday, celebrating the Rs. 800 hike in their pay after going on strike for 13 days.
Later, addressing the Anganwadi workers and helpers, CPI (M) district secretary B. Narayana called for efforts to strengthen the union at the mandal and village levels. Terming the wage hike as a victory, he told them to wage a struggle in future to pressurise the government to increase their pay to Rs. 10,000 and recognise them as government employees.
CITU district general secretary A. Ramamohan lauded the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union members for agitating with determination in an uncertain political scenario.
CITU district president K. Anjaneyulu said an agitation would be taken up after the general elections on the demand for enhancing the pay to Rs. 10,000 and retirement benefits.
The union’s district president, D. Rajakullayamma, and general secretary N. Sankaramma said the Congress government, which was adamant in conceding the demands, would incur their wrath. Union’s honorary president I.N. Subbamma, treasurer B. Lakshmi Devi and other leaders participated.
