Gurramkonda mandal headquarters has been spruced up for the Hazarath Gouse-ul Azam Dasthgir Urs to be held on February 7.

The festival is expected to draw a large number of people from the Madanapalle division, which has a substantial Muslim population. Gurramkonda was under the patronage of Tippu Sultan’s descendants for several decades, before it was annexed by the British.

Urs organizer Hazarath Syed Sha Hidayatullah said the festival would be organised on Talim Street at Gurramkonda.

The events lined up include ‘Gandham’ procession on Sunday evening, followed by Qawali competitions from 9 p.m. till the early hours of Monday.

Senior Qawali artistes Rooplatha from Kohlapur and Abbas Sabari from Bareily will be attending the event.
