Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said his government will never do injustice to the Backward Classes (BCs), which have been supporting the TDP for the last 35 years.

“Believe me. I will not do injustice to you [BCs]. If I do, it means I have done injustice to myself. My government is with you. At the same time, I will support the real cause of Kapus,” Mr. Naidu said at the Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru public meeting here on Thursday.

Addressing a mammoth gathering at the VSM College grounds, Mr. Naidu said he had promised reservation for the Kapus during his padayatra in Pithapuram.

“In keeping with the promise, I have constituted the Justice Manjunath Commission with a view to looking into the issue. It will take some time for the commission to submit its report. As a prelude to that, the government has constituted the Kapu Welfare and Development Corporation with an allocation of Rs.1,000 crore. We do not want to put pressure on the Commission to submit its report in haste,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Naidu made it clear that he would work for the larger benefit of society or community, and not do anything just to benefit a few persons.

He termed the present round of Janmabhoomi as a kind of thanksgiving to nature, parents, and elders.

Referring to the need to adopt digital transactions, Mr. Naidu said all transactions in the government, whether at ration shops or rythu bazaars, or disbursal of scholarship or DWCRA loans, would be made through Aadhaar-based biometric devices.

Referring to the vast tourism potential untapped in East Godavari district, Mr. Naidu said the government, in an attempt to attract tourists, would conduct Akhanda Godavari festival, Kakinada beach festival, Konaseema festival, and ‘manyam jatara’.

He called upon local people to encourage tourism on the lines of those in Kerala and Karnataka, where some houses would exclusively host tourists.

Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinarajappa, Ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and Ravela Kishore Babu, Amalapuram MP Pandula Ravindrababu and MLAs attended the meeting. Ramachandrapuram MLA Thota Trimurthulu presided over the meeting.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed RDO office building.
