CHITTOOR: The Piler rural police, led by Circle-Inspector Mahesh, raided a forest location at Yerravaripalem mandal and took seven persons into custody on charges of organising cockfights. The official said that an amount of Rs. 2,500 and four roosters were seized, while others fled the scene. A case was booked.

Meanwhile, the Kuppam Assembly constituency, which is known for inferior versions of Jallikattu, at Dhandikuppam and Adavibuduguru, remained free from this rural sport this year.

Kuppam Circle-Inspector M. Rajasekhar said surveillance teams operating in the rural areas found no trace of the event anywhere. “However, the peaceful way of Pasuvula Panduga will be held all over Kuppam region from Saturday onward. Marking Sankranti, rural households and farmers richly decorate their cattle and even adore them with colorful robes and garlands, and leave them into the public places for a stroll,” he said.
