ELURU: A punter created panic among the organisers and participants of rooster fights on Friday by opening two rounds of fire from his revolver. The incident took place at Srinivasapuram village of Jangareddigudem and the accused has been identified as Dayakar, a mining trader from Khammam district.

He came all the way to Srinivasapuram to participate in the roosterfights. The moment the rooster on which he levied his stake had won over the other, Dayakar was on cloud nine and opened fire. People ran helter-skelter from the scene.

Jagnareddigudem inspector Srinivas along with sub-inspector M. Kesava Rao rushed to the spot and seized the revolver, besides taking the accused into custody. The police also picked up the organisers for questioning. An investigation was in progress about the registration details of the weapon. The police said that a case would be registered after completion of the preliminary inquiry.
