GUNTUR: Project Director, ICDS, M.J. Nirmala has been suspended after an enquiry into allegations of large-scale misappropriations in the maintenance of anganwadi centres in the district.

The decision to suspend Ms. Nirmala came after a detailed inquiry into allegations. The State government has already suspended two employees of the women and child welfare department on charges of misappropriation of funds.

Principal Secretary, Health, Poonam Malakondaiah issued orders on Monday suspending the officer. Sources said that a Cabinet minister had tried to shield the officers, but the Principal Secretary stuck to her decision.
