DEO promises school for rag-pickers

KURNOOL: District Educational Officer K. Ravindranath Reddy visited the habitation of rag-pickers of Chenchu community at Srinivasanagar in Kurnool city on Tuesday and promised to sanction a school for their children in the area.

The DEO inspected the area a day after rag-pickers demonstrated at Kurnool Collectorate seeking sanction of a school to educate their children.

Mr. Reddy interacted with Dalita Bahujan Front leader Velpula Jyothi, Rayalaseema Mala Mahanadu leader Madasu Nagaraju, SC/ST Student Parishad leader Veta Obulesu and Chenchu community leader Ranganna and assured them of starting a school temporarily in a shed shown by locals.

He promised to grant funds for construction of a school building if a suitable site was identified. The Dalit and Chenchu leaders and local people thanked the DEO for promptly responding to their request.
