Constable dies as gun misfires

An Armed Reserve constable of 2011 batch, H. Ampanna, 24, of Hindupur in Anantapur district, who was posted for bandobust duty in Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s tour, died when a bullet pierced his chest when his rifle misfired, at Thadakanapalli in Kurnool district on Monday.

Ampanna, who was posted on a hillock near Thadakanapalli in Kallur mandal, was severely wounded and bled profusely when his rifle went off accidentally. On hearing the bullet shot, other policemen rushed him to the Kurnool general hospital. He succumbed to injuries during treatment. The police have registered a case.
