The former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat claimed here on Wednesday he had been framed in the Louis Berger bribery case.

Replying to a question at a Congress press briefing, in the presence of three former Chief Ministers, Luizinho Faleiro, Pratapsingh Rane and Ravi Naik, Mr. Kamat said, “I have nothing to do with this case. There is not a single signature of mine on the Louis Berger file because the contract had to be approved by the Japan Bank of Cooperation (Japanese International Cooperation Agency).”

Mr. Kamat is an accused in the case filed over a year ago by the Goa Crime Branch.

‘No evidence’

“No files had come to the office of Chief Minister or Finance Minister. Even the signature of Churchill Alemao [former Minister Public Works Department who is the second accused in the case] was not on the file.”

Mr. Kamat is a candidate in the February 4 Goa Assembly election.
