Protesting denial of ticket by the AINRC founder and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to sitting MLA P.M.L. Kalyanasundaram from Kalapet Assembly constituency his supporters on Thursday laid siege to the Chief Minister’s residence at Thilaspet.

The AINRC had released its first list of candidates for 21 Assembly segments in the Union Territory on Thursday. However, Mr. Kalyanasundaram’s name did not figure in the list, thus brewing discontent.

The slogan shouting supporters of the MLA asserted that Mr. Kalyanasundaram must be granted a ticket to contest the elections in view of his contributions to the constituency.

However, Mr. Rangasamy stuck to his guns and said that he was fully aware on what decision should be taken at the appropriate time.

Mr. Kalyanasundaram was among the group of MLAs in the AINRC who had raised a banner of revolt against Mr. Rangasamy who was keen about fielding N. Gokulakrishnan as the AINRC nominee in the Rajya Sabha polls last year.

This prompted the AINRC to put behind the rivalry and approach the AIADMK. As a result, the AINRC fielded its nominee Mr. Gokulakrishnan as an AIADMK candidate and survived.
