Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Sunday said free mixers and grinders would be distributed to beneficiaries in all the constituencies of Union Territory before the end of this month.
The ruling All India NR Congress (AINRC) Government had launched the scheme of free mixers and grinders last August for the beneficiaries. The aim is to cover over 3.37 lakh families. The families are being given each mixer worth Rs.1,056 and table-top wet grinder worth Rs.2,142.
The scheme is being implemented at a cost of Rs.120 crore and the distribution is being done in a phased manner.
The Chief Minister launched the programme in three constituencies- Kamaraj Nagar, Thattanchavadi and Ariyankuppam in last August.
Subsequently freebies were distributed in Mannadipet and Kalapet constituencies.
In pursuance of this exercise, the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Sunday formally handed out mixers and grinders to women beneficiaries at Lawspet, Thattanchavadi, Indira Nagar and Kadirkamam constituencies.
Mr. Rangasamy said, “As promised earlier, we have distributed free mixers and grinders to beneficiaries in 13 constituencies. and completed more than 50 per cent of the work. Before the end of this month, we hope to cover all 30 constituencies.”
