A day after Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi made a veiled threat to demit office by October if elected representatives, officials and members of the public continued with their “non-cooperation,” in the weekend cleanliness drive, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy acknowledged Bedi’s effort to ensure a “prosperous and clean Union Territory.”

“Ms. Bedi wants to see a prosperous and clean Puducherry while our government wants to make it a developed one. We are working together and if there are issues it will be sorted out,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting to discuss Budget preparations on Monday.

Budget discussed

Mr. Narayanasamy said he met the Lieutenant Governor on Monday morning and discussed the budget preparation.

“I am not going to say anything more on what transpired at the meeting,” he said to repeated questions on Ms. Bedi’s statement on her threat to leave the UT.

He did not answer queries on whether the Lieutenant Governor was right in making such a statement.

He asserted that his government was getting cooperation from the Lieutenant Governor. It was working towards introducing segregation of waste at source. It will turn the Union Territory into “Open Defecation-Free” by 2017, thereby making it a clean place to live.

The Chief Minister said that since the Congress government took over, the industry had been sending positive signals to make investments in Puducherry.

The government would accord equal importance to improve investment climate, especially in the manufacturing, healthcare, and education sectors, he said.
