Beating around 1,25,000 students from across India, a duo from the Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Puducherry, won the top prize at 'TESTimony', a software testing contest held by the Tata Consultancy Services Talent Acquisition Team in association with Assurance Services Unit. The contest is held across TCS accredited institutes in India.

Through three rounds, 300 teams were shortlisted, of which 10 were selected. At the grand finale at the TCS campus in Chennai on August 13, C. James Martin and R. Sugandhan, third year students from the Department of Information Technology, SMVEC were placed first. A press release from the college said that among the top 300 teams, 21 were from SMVEC. Mr. Martin and Mr. Sugandhan won an iMac desktop, and were also given job offers at TCS.

Recognising that software testing is not given due prominence in college education, TESTimony was designed to nurture and lay a strong foundation for students in it, and help them jumpstart their career in software testing, according to the organisers of the contest. Participants were tested on software testing tools Selenium, JMeter and Appium, said Mr. Sugandhan. “In the final round, we had to work on these tools and show results within a stipulated time of 45 minutes. The competition was intense with the final 10 teams coming from 8 States, including teams from IITs,” he said. SMVEC had also won the first and third places in the contest last year, said Mr. Sugandhan.
