The DMK has chosen its nominee from Karaikal region to contest in Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency.
A.M.H. Nazeem (55), sitting Member of Legislative Party from Karaikal South constituency, will contest Lok Sabha elections for the first time in his 21 years of political career. He joined the party in 1983. He was elected to the Puducherry Assembly from Karaikal North constituency in 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. He successfully contested from the newly-created Karaikal South in 2011. He entered the Puducherry Assembly for the first time in 1990 as a nominated MLA.
Mr. Nazeem, who is holding the post of Karaikal DMK organiser, held the post of Minister for Health in 1996 when the DMK was in power. He was Opposition Leader in 2006. He is the second candidate from Karaikal to contest for the 16 Lok Sabha elections from the Puducherry constituency. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has already named M.V. Omalingam, former MLA, as its candidate for Puducherry.
