K. Janardhan, Chief General Superintendent, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) General Hospital (GH), inaugurated a child guidance clinic at the hospital complex recently.

With this, the NLC GH is acquiring the rare distinction of foraying into child and adolescents psychiatry services to meet the growing demand for psychiatric intervention for management of various learning disabilities, mental deficiencies, neuro-psychiatric, emotional, psychological and social problems etc.

A multi-disciplinary team comprising psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, occupational therapist, speech therapist and counsellors will deal with the problems of children. The clinic will be functioning every Tuesday and Wednesday between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The clinic will help in early diagnosis and management of learning disabilities and other development disorders through professional intervention. In addition to NLC psychiatrist S. Vijayakumari, paediatricians, speech therapist Padma and experts from the Neyveli Township have volunteered to work in the clinic. Psychologist Narmada, occupational therapist Malathi and counsellors Nalini Ashok, Mary Jayamani, Sakila and Bhavani are among the volunteers.

P. Ravi, V. Nagaraju, general superintendents, M. Saanthalakshmi, R. Arulmozhi, Pakiyamary Jerome, doctors and para-medical staff, were present.
