The ruling AINRC has called for a meeting of its party Legislators on Wednesday to discuss the situation arising out of Government whip G. Nehru quitting the post protesting over inordinate delay by the leadership in announcing the official nominee for the polls.

Informal meeting

An informal meeting of AINRC MLAs was held in the chamber of the Speaker V. Sabapathy in the Assembly on Tuesday evening. The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker T.P.R. Selvam, Ministers T. Thiagarajan, P. Rajavelu and AINRC MLAs A. Angalane, V. Bhalan and N.S.J. Jayabal.

Although the agenda of the meeting could not be known immediately, AINRC MLA V. Bhalan said that a meeting of the party legislators would be convened on Wednesday.

The time and venue would be finalised later, he said. AINRC sources said the meeting had been convened on the directions of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to finalise the party nominee for the Rajya Sabha polls and discuss the situation arising out of Mr. Nehru quitting his post earlier in the day. Resentment has been brewing among a section of AINRC Legislators over the selection of candidate for the polls. A section of MLAs have carried their protest to the Chief Minister for not eliciting their views and suggestions in a meeting before finalising the candidate.
