ABVP wants uniform fee structure in schools

June 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:01 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Puducherry unit, has written to the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to constitute a committee headed by a retired High Court judge to streamline fee structure for all the private schools in Puducherry.

M.Siva, ABVP zonal in-charge in Puducherry, in a press statement said that there were approximately 730 private schools and 410 government schools in Puducherry.

Some of these private schools were collecting huge amounts as donation and fees.

There was also compulsion that the students buy school uniforms, books, bags, shoes in the stalls of school premises.

“In addition, in the name of selling application forms for higher secondary students, huge amount is collected from the parents. This clearly reveals that most of the private schools have commercialised the education in Puducherry. Hence, ABVP requests Lt.Governor to intervene immediately to amend the Rule 64 of (Pondicherry School Education Rules of 1996) so as to regulate the uniform fees structure in all private schools at Puducherry,” said Mr.Siva in the press statement.
