Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi has directed the departments concerned to issue appropriate guidelines to comply with a Madras High Court interim direction restraining the District Registrar of Puducherry from registering unauthorised housing layouts.

Ms. Bedi sought urgent action in this regard to check any mushrooming or further violations and to maintain status quo “till any other steps are thought of within the law, duly examined and approved.”

A Madras High Court Bench had on Tuesday passed the interim order on a plea moved by advocate ‘Elephant’ G. Rajendran seeking to extend the ban on unauthorised housing layouts on converted agricultural land in Tamil Nadu to Puducherry.
