5 injured in freak car accident

There was high drama on the busy Lenin Street here on Monday when a 21-year-old person driving a multi-utility vehicle hit pedestrians and some vehicles that were parked on the road.

According to police, Balachandran of Samipillai Garden took his brother’s vehicle and was proceeding towards Nellithoppe signal through Lenin Street. He suddenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The vehicle went berserk and hit panicky pedestrians who ran helter-skelter. Five persons, including four women, were injured.

The car damaged seven motorcycles parked on the roadside and finally hit the wall of a hotel.

The names of the injured persons were given as Revathi (25), Sundari (21), Sakunthala (58), Kalavathi (45) and Sivasankaran (67). They have been admitted to the Government General Hospital. Traffic Police are investigating the case.
