Two Maoists killed

Two suspected members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed in an encounter with the police in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

“An encounter took place today morning near Gangrajpahad village under Konta police station limits in Sukma district of Bastar. Two male Maoists were killed during the encounter and two country-made weapons were recovered from them,” Bastar range Inspector General of Police, Mr SRP Kalluri said.

The police team was led by Konta Sub-Divisional Police Officer Harish Yadav and jointly planned by Sukma district police and forces from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

“Our party had left Friday night and the exchange of fire took place today morning. The two dead Maoists have been identified as Maita region RPC president Sunnam Tammaiah and technical team member Madkam Muyya. We received active support Andhra police,” he said.
