In a surprise turn of events, arch rivals and cousins Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray held a one-hour meeting at the former’s residence, Matoshree.
The visit by the MNS chief on Friday morning with three others was unannounced, fuelling speculation about a possible political agreement between warring cousines.
No one else was present during the meeting between Raj and Uddhav, sources said. Both parties maintained that the meeting was strictly for personal reasons and had no political connotations.
At present, Sena founder late Bal Thackeray’s sons Jaydev and Uddhav are in the middle of a legal tussle over their father’s property. One of the reasons behind the meeting between the cousins is said to be the legal battle.
Leaders from both parties refused to comment about the meeting, calling it a family matter. However, rumours had it that the meeting was about a possible adjustment between two parties for the upcoming Mumbai civic polls in February 2017. However, no official statements were released by either party.
