The Mumbai police on Saturday seized an ambulance linked to Santosh Pol, the Satara man who has confessed to having killed six people and buried them in his farmhouse in Wai, from Mahim.
The vehicle will be handed over to a police team arriving from Satara on Saturday night.
The Satara police’s investigation into how Pol would transport the people he killed had thrown up a reference to an ambulance, which Pol said he had donated to a Mumbai-based trust, Ganraj Welfare Society. The Mumbai police traced the ambulance to Dargah Galli in Mahim. The ambulance, equipped with a Cardio Cathlab intensive care unit, belonged to a Mumbai-based doctor, V.K. Ghotwadekar.
“Dr. Ghotwadekar told us that he was the owner of the ambulance. It appears that Pol had stolen the vehicle and written his name on the vehicle as a donor,” a Wai police official said.
The ambulance had gone missing from Satara in July and a complaint regarding its theft was lodged at the Wai police station. “The Satara police had informed us about the ambulance in Mumbai. Now that it has been traced, it will be handed over to the Satara police,” said Deputy Commissioner, Zone V, Paramjit Singh Dahia.
The police will investigate if the ambulance has any link with the serial murders.
