Mumbai: A case has been registered on Sunday against the proprietor of a cold storage unit in Taloja after three persons working there were electrocuted while cleaning the unit’s water tank on January 29. Officers with Taloja police station said Zulfikar Seth, who owns Gausiya Cold Storage, is yet to be arrested. They said the case was registered after investigations showed the deaths had occurred due to lack of safety measures and negligence by Seth.

On January 29, police said, Seth had assigned his employees to clean the water tank. Using machinery to drain the water, an employee had entered the tank around 10 p.m. to clean it, but a fault in the machine caused electricity to leak into the water, killing him. The other two employees died in succession when they entered the tank to check on those who entered before them. The victims were identified as Kanhaiyya Parshuram Mahto, 22, Raheem Maadar Gaji, 38, and Manoj Bisho Munda, 26.

The fire brigade was called in to retrieve the bodies, and a case of accidental death was registered. The police investigation found that the deaths were due to the lack of safety measures and a case of death due to negligence was registered against Seth.
