Mumbai: The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court on Monday ordered for four scenes to be deleted from the Akshay-Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 , due to release later this week.
A Division Bench of Justice S.S. Shinde and Justice K.K. Sonawane was hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocate Ajaykumar S. Waghmare who moved court stating that the word “LLB” and several scenes shown in the trailer were a deliberate attempt to malign the impeccable reputation of the Indian Legal Profession. The petition contended that characters in the movie are playing cards and dancing in the court premises which clearly shows that the movie disrespects judicial discipline, proceedings and ethics. He said characters from the movie were shown jumping on the dice of the judge which clearly indicates mockery of the court.
In the last hearing, a Division Bench of Justice V.M. Kanade had observed prima facie there was an element of contempt and ordered a three-member committee to review the film. The committee comprising senior advocate R.N. Dhorde, advocate V.J. Dixit and Dr. Prakash Kanade submitted a report, and taking that into consideration, the Bench ordered four scenes to be deleted.
The producers of the film had moved the Supreme Court against the appointment of the committee. However the apex court refused to interfere and said HC will look into it. After this order, the Central Board of Film Certification will have to issue another certificate before the film can be released as scheduled on February 10.
